Our adoption case for my wife to adopt the boys has finally been assigned to a social worker. Its so crazy that we even have to go through this considering the boys are genetically hers! But, we do what we have to in order to protect our family. Luckily, because of the little guys medical conditions, and the fact that they are both at high-risk for RSV and other illnesses (such as the swin.e fl.u), we don't have to treck all the way downtown with the babies (to a county building!). The social worker got permission to conduct the interview in our home, and will be coming to meet us in early October.
I wonder what she will ask? She knows the situation and made a comment to the effect of "well, my report won't be long considering you guys obviously planned these babies together..." which tells me a few things: #1 - She isn't clueless as to the ways of our world, and #2 - This should be a fairly easy process. Let's hope!
This is just one more thing I need to check off my "To Do" list in regards to securing our boys future. We already have life insurance in place, I've changed all our secondary beneficiaries to list the boys, and I'm working on drafting a will and revocable living trust. *I almost went to law school, and interned at several law firms, so I know my way around the courthouse pretty well. (I filed our adoption paperwork myself and saved us about $5,000). Am I missing anything?

Nice work getting your ducks in order. We did the same. Do you have back up guardians for the boys? I love that you saved 5,000.
ReplyDeleteAwesome that you did it yourself! I don't suppose you can charge your wife the $5000 and then have her claim it as an adoption tax credit? it would be fun to screw the feds a little, I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the adoption! I'm sure it will go smoothly.
ReplyDeleteIt is unfortunate that you HAVE to go through that, but anything for the babies!
